Mathematics for Change is an educational platform operated by M4C Education OÜ, a company registered in Estonia under registry code 17486122.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), M4C Education OÜ acts as the data controller for personal data collected directly through the Mathematics for Change website and teacher services.

Where Mathematics for Change processes student-related data on behalf of a school or educational institution, the respective roles of the school and M4C Education OÜ will depend on the nature and purpose of the processing and applicable data protection requirements.

2. What data we collect

We may collect and process:

Information submitted voluntarily through contact, registration, or teacher membership forms, such as name, email address, school affiliation, and messages;
Technical website usage information, such as pages visited, browser type, device information, IP address, and approximate usage statistics, where collected through Wix or associated website technologies;
Teacher account and platform usage information necessary to provide access to Mathematics for Change resources and services;
Student assessment responses, scores, and automated feedback generated during lesson activities, associated with teacher-managed student codes.

Student data

Students are not required to create personal accounts or provide their name or email address in order to participate in Mathematics for Change activities.

Students access lesson assessments through links and student codes provided by their teacher.

Mathematics for Change does not require teachers to submit students' names, email addresses, or other direct identifiers alongside these codes.

Student codes are used to associate assessment activity with the relevant lesson and teacher environment. Teachers are responsible for managing any separate record that links a student code to an individual student, where they choose to maintain such a record.

Student assessment responses and scores should therefore not contain unnecessary personal information. Teachers and students should avoid entering names or other directly identifying information in open-text assessment responses.

3. How we use your data

We process personal data only for the purposes described below:

To provide access to teacher resources, lesson materials, and assessment tools;
To generate automated educational feedback for lesson assessments;
To communicate updates, support, or platform-related information (only when consent is provided);
To improve website functionality and educational experience.

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Automated educational feedback

Mathematics for Change uses artificial intelligence technologies to assist in generating formative feedback on certain open-ended student assessment responses.

For this purpose, the text of the relevant question, the associated assessment criteria or rubric, and the student's written response may be securely transmitted to an external AI service provider.

Student names, email addresses, student codes, teacher email addresses, and school identifiers are not intentionally transmitted to the AI provider as part of the automated assessment process.

The AI service currently used for this purpose is provided through the OpenAI API. Data submitted through the OpenAI API is not used to train OpenAI models by default. OpenAI may retain API data for a limited period for security and abuse-monitoring purposes, in accordance with its applicable data retention policies.

Automated feedback is used exclusively for formative educational purposes and is not intended to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on students. It should not be considered a substitute for teacher judgement or formal academic assessment.

Students should not include names or other unnecessary personal or sensitive information in open-text assessment responses.

5. Legal basis for processing

Consent, where you voluntarily submit information through contact forms or opt in to communications;

Legitimate interests, where necessary to operate, secure and improve the Mathematics for Change website and services, provided that these interests are not overridden by the rights and freedoms of the individuals concerned;

Performance of a contract or steps taken prior to entering into a contract, where processing is necessary to provide purchased or requested services;

Compliance with legal obligations applicable to M4C Education OÜ.

This website is hosted on Wix.com, which may use cookies and analytics tools to ensure proper website functionality and performance.

7. Data storage and protection

Mathematics for Change uses Wix.com and associated service providers to host and operate the platform. Personal data is protected through reasonable administrative and technical security measures.

Access to stored information is restricted to authorized administrators only.

Student assessment data is retained for the duration of the relevant trial, subscription, or educational engagement and for up to 12 months thereafter, in order to provide teachers with continued access to assessment results and support related educational activities.

The relevant school or educational institution may request earlier deletion of student-related personal data, subject to applicable legal or technical requirements.

After the applicable retention period, student assessment data may be deleted or irreversibly anonymised, unless a longer retention period is required by law or specifically agreed with the relevant educational institution.

8. Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), where applicable, you have the right to:

Access your personal data;
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data;
Request deletion of your personal data;
Request restriction of processing;
Object to certain types of processing;
Request data portability;
Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal;

Lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority.
